There have been some intriguing (but slightly alarming) studies published in recent years about how your hearing health is connected to several areas of your bodily health and lifestyle. After reading some of the statistics with your breakfast, maybe you’re wondering about getting your hearing tested.
The quick answer: Yes! Getting your hearing tested can help you understand your current range of hearing and learn what steps you need to take to improve it, whether that be by turning the TV volume down, booking annual hearing tests, or investing in advanced hearing aid technology.
Many individuals shrink away from hearing aids out of fear of looking old; with the stereotypical beige outer piece being the image that most think of, it’s not a pretty sight.
Thankfully, hearing aids have shrunk and sped along with the times, and modern hearing aids are not only more discreet and pretty to wear, but they’re more powerful and come with some advanced features to help wearing them feel less like a burden and more like a benefit.
As well as helping your hearing, hearing aids have been proven to help avoid cognitive decline, lessen your risk of harmful falls, and, according to a study from the beginning of 2024, can even help you live longer.
Hearing aids, when worn properly and consistently, could literally save your life.
How Do Hearing Aids Increase My Life Expectancy?
This study, taken on by Dr. Janet Choi from Keck Medicine at the University of Southern California, sought to understand how routine use of hearing aids affected almost 10,000 participants with varying levels of hearing loss challenges.
Dr. Choi’s findings were incredible – the group of patients that used hearing aids regularly had a 24% lower risk of premature mortality compared to the group that didn’t use hearing aids at all.
Of course, that lowered risk only came as a result of routine wear; when used properly, hearing aids provide several benefits to your entire body. Unfortunately, many individuals neglect to wear their devices as they should and never fully adapt to wearing them every day.
Hearing loss happens gradually as time passes; many people don’t realize the effects on their day-to-day lives until someone points them out to them.
Regular hearing aid wear and professional hearing care can combine to help you live longer, remain active in your independent lifestyle, and rejoin the conversations you’ve been missing out on.
